Banish Self-Criticism

🛑 🙊 My top interview advice? Banish self-criticism. Never, ever say anything negative about yourself. Why do we do this?

👎🏻 Impostor Syndrome: Doubting ourselves leads us to focus on what we think are our flaws.

👎🏻 Misguided Humility: Yes, modesty is a virtue, but not in an interview.

👎🏻 Fear of Overconfidence: Not wanting to appear arrogant, we cut ourselves down.

👎🏻 Misreading the room: Don't view questions about challenges as invitations to discuss failures - It's a trap! Reframe these answers around learning.

You are your own best advocate. How you talk about yourself sets the tone for how others perceive and remember you. This takes a little work...

💪🏻 Reframe Failures as Lessons: View setbacks as growth opportunities, not flaws. Each challenge faced is a step toward your greater success.

💪🏻 Prep with Positivity: Give yourself a pep talk focusing on achievements and strengths. Remind yourself of the challenges you've overcome.

💪🏻 Practice with a Critical Ally: Share your story with someone honest who'll flag any negative self-talk. This feedback will help keep your narrative habits on a positive track.

These strategies aren't just about preparing for interviews; they're about reshaping your self-perception and building confidence in your story. So, the next time you're tempted to highlight a flaw or fumble, pause. Take a breath - then choose to highlight a strength or insight instead.
